Palmetto Launches Operations in New Mexico

CHARLESTON, S.C., January 26, 2021 -- Palmetto, a rapidly growing technology company accelerating the national adoption of clean energy, announced today that it has launched operations in New Mexico, and is now serving 19 states across the country. Since 2010, Palmetto has helped thousands of homeowners across the U.S. switch to solar energy through a new marketplace approach, with end-to-end energy solutions that help homeowners achieve their financial and environmental goals.

Palmetto believes that choosing to source energy from renewable resources should be a right, not a privilege. Palmetto's proprietary technology, marketplace business model, and consumer mobile application are all designed to democratize access to clean energy; making it easier and more affordable to make the switch. Palmetto's system helps homeowners quickly estimate utility costs saved by switching to solar, work with a team of local solar experts to design and install a system that matches their needs, and receive comprehensive, long-term customer support.

Palmetto's software tools and innovative marketplace approach simplifies a once confusing process. Homeowners are empowered to make informed purchasing decisions, while ongoing energy data insights provide them with better understanding and control over their long term energy usage.

“Today, Palmetto is launching a first quarter 2021 Southwestern Blitz program, and starting that program with the opening of operations in New Mexico, a state that is aggressively moving towards a clean energy future,” stated Chris Kemper, Palmetto founder and Chief Executive Officer. “New Mexico’s legislative agenda and private sector momentum is shifting how the State’s residents consume energy. Palmetto’s technology compliments this agenda by providing consumers with the tools to understand their energy options. We look forward to playing a pivotal role in helping New Mexico residents realize their clean energy future.”

New Mexico’s economy has been, in part, historically driven by the crude oil and natural gas industries. In the shifting of State priorities, more legislation and legal mandates are now favoring clean energy goals. One program, the Property Assessed Clean Energy or “PACE” funding opportunity, helps homeowners cover the initial purchase and installation costs of renewable energy systems. As a result, New Mexico is one of the top growing markets for rooftop solar in the U.S..

In 2020, New Mexico’s goal of 20 percent of retail electricity sales coming from renewable energy sources was barely achieved. The 2024 goal doubles that threshold to 40 percent, which has the State actively seeking private and public investment in renewable energy through generous incentives.
