Electric baseboard heaters are among the simpler heating systems to install. They don't require ductwork or plumbing, which keeps the job relatively contained. But that doesn't mean DIY territory for most people. These units connect directly to your home's electrical system, and that calls for a licensed electrician.

Site assessment: Before any work starts, the electrician determines what size unit the room requires, what size unit will fit, and whether your existing electrical panel can handle the additional load.

Circuit preparation: Most 240-volt baseboard heaters require a dedicated circuit, a separate electrical line that runs just to that heater. Whole-home systems: Heating a whole home requires a unit in nearly every room. Multiple sources put whole-home installed costs in the range of $5,400 to $7,800 for a medium-to-large home.

Labor: An hour of work from a licensed electrician varies by region, but can run up to $120 per hour. Panel upgrades or multi-zone wiring can meaningfully increase labor time and the total bill.

Additional costs: Permit fees, thermostat upgrades, and panel upgrades can each add several hundred dollars. Running a new 240-volt circuit and adding a breaker can add another $500 to $800 on its own.
