Shoppers during the holiday season.

Americans are gearing up to spend big this weekend.

From Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Americans are expected to spend in excess of $20 billion online and in person this year. While more and more of the deals are accessed online, digital and physical crowds are ready to shell out some money.

But, Americans are shelling out in less festive ways, too. The US Energy Information Administration projects that once 2025 is in the books, electricity rates for residential customers will have risen 4.7% compared to 2024. A 4.7% increase in the average electric bill ($142.26 per month in 2024) would bring it to $148.95 per month. That translates to an extra $80.23 on electricity in 2025. But, if we look back five years to 2020, we’ll find that we’re spending an extra $31.49 per month, or $377.88 per year.

Give yourself the gift of long term savings

If your energy bill is a subscription you can’t cancel, it’s also one that raises its prices almost every year. That’s money that could go toward a 4K TV, a new laptop, new video games for the kids, and the other items on your Christmas list.

If you’ve already earned a discount in the Palmetto app, Black Friday is a great time to spend your points to reduce the price of energy-saving devices, like a smart thermostat, portable power station, home energy monitor, or more.

Here are some of the deals you’ll find this week, on top of any Black Friday discounts the manufacturers offer.

  • $260 off an EcoFlow RIVER 2 Pro Portable Backup Battery
  • $50 off smart air filters
  • $43 off an EV charger

Whatever deal you’re looking for, if you could have locked in your electricity rate five years ago, you’d have more money to spend today.

"Start earning rewards for saving energy today," next to a phone showing the Palmetto app.

With Palmetto LightReach, you can lock in a predictable rate for not just the next five years, but the next 25. With premium solar panels, system monitoring and maintenance included in one monthly payment, you can be ready for decades of Black Fridays.

Treat yourself to something even better than an online deal this Black Friday: long-term energy savings.
